Overwhelmed by an unusual olive oil campaign
Compartir
That's right, overwhelmed is the right word. From a campaign that we thought was good in quantity and quality, but not as it turned out.
Summing up, after 52 days of very intense work, we can say that the campaign was quantitatively medium, or medium-high.
Qualitatively...what can I say, a stratospheric campaign, at the same level (almost for some, better for others) as that of 2 years ago. Healthy olives, very fragrant oil, full of character but not aggressive. Green and rich fruitiness, a nice bitter, tasty and spicy, persistent.
Excellent analysis values, average acidity 0.15, average peroxides 5, polyphenols around 600.
In addition to enjoying the 2022 oil, what does this olive oil campaign teach us? That the olive tree, as always, proves to be a humble plant, which with little, gives a lot.
Given the somewhat complicated start with the great heat during flowering, this year we have neglected at least half of the plant fertilization routine, taking care only to always keep them covered with kaolin, from the beginning of June. And we have constantly monitored the presence/absence of olive fly. The drought at a certain point scared us. But it started to rain just at the right time, at the end of August.
Forget about irrigated olive groves...the scents of this year's oil, the good yields, the healthy olives, are due precisely to drought. Which after all the olive tree, a Mediterranean plant, loves deeply.
Happy bruschetta to everyone!!
